How To Prepare Your Pet for Transport

To ensure a smooth and safe transportation process, please make sure your pet meets the following requirements:

Import & Export Medical Requirements

Before exporting pets from Thailand, certain medical and identification requirements must be completed to comply with international animal transportation regulations.

Additional health certificates and documentation may be required based on the specific import regulations of the destination country.

Movement From Thailand European Union (EU) Countries

Pets traveling from Thailand to countries within the European Union must meet specific identification and health requirements to comply with international animal transport regulations.

Identification: Pets must be identified with an electronic microchip (transponder) that corresponds with the identification number listed in the pet’s passport or official documentation.

A clearly readable tattoo applied before 3 July 2011 may also be accepted in some cases. However, a microchip is mandatory for pets traveling to the United Kingdom, Malta, and Ireland.

Valid Rabies Vaccination: Pets traveling from Thailand must have a valid rabies vaccination administered according to the vaccine manufacturer’s recommendations.

Rabies Serology Test (Blood Test): A rabies antibody blood test is required to confirm immunity:

  • Blood sample must be taken at least 30 days after vaccination
  • Test result must show ≥ 0.5 IU/ml
  • Testing must be conducted by a laboratory approved by the European Commission
  • The test must be completed at least three months before travel

Important Remarks

The rabies serology (rabies titer test) requirement applies to countries that follow regulations under the European Union pet import policy, including destinations such as Japan and Hong Kong. Pets must remain in Thailand for 90 to 180 days after the rabies blood test, depending on the specific import regulations of the destination country. Rabies titer blood tests must be conducted by approved international laboratories, and only results issued by these accredited laboratories are accepted for international pet transportation.
